This beautiful little table has been upcycled. The table top features a crescent moon design with glass and agate crystals, real metal glitter, and mica flakes forming the contours of the dark region of the top design. The moonscape features craters, escarpments and maria picked out in subtle blues and purples and then transparent black resin poured over and allowed to drip over the edges. The bottom of the table has been hand painted with a reasonably accurate full Earth's moon. This has been protected with several layers of clear lacquer. The legs are painted with a geode design to match (also lacquered) and have been set with oodles of glass crystals, making them heavy and so this table is nice and stable.
My astronomy friend Eddie died while I was making this table (October 2020) and there is a quotation and dedication to him on the bottom of the legs. The quotation is from a poem called "The Old Astronomer to his Pupil" by Sarah Williams:
Though my soul may set in darkenss, it will rise in perfect light,
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.
